The Story Behind Myth & Metal: A Passion for History and Jewellery
Share
Jewellery has always captivated me—not just for its beauty, but for the stories it tells. Over the years, I’ve visited countless exhibitions, immersing myself in the treasures of ancient cultures and marvelling at the craftsmanship that has withstood the test of time.
The real turning point, however, came when I attended a talk by local archaeologist Andrea Hughes. During the event, Andrea shared fascinating insights into the pre-Roman civilizations on the island of Portland, Dorset, particularly focusing on local burial sites and the artifacts unearthed there. What struck me most was the lack of these precious items on display in local museums. Many significant pieces from this era seemed to be missing, hidden away from public view.
This absence ignited a deep desire to not only preserve these ancient stories but also to recreate some of these artifacts for local display. I wanted to design jewellery that would bring these lost histories back to life and allow others to experience the artistry of the past.
This vision led to the creation of Myth & Metal—a jewellery brand that blends historical inspiration with traditional techniques. Every piece is handcrafted with methods such as melting and pouring metal, forming and soldering by hand, stone setting, and polishing. The craftsmanship reflects the methods used by ancient artisans, ensuring that each piece is as timeless as the history it draws from.
I also believe in creating jewellery that is not only beautiful but also sustainable. Whenever possible, I use recycled metal to craft my pieces and recycled packaging to minimize waste. This commitment to sustainability ensures that my work not only honours the past but also considers the future.
Through Myth & Metal, I aim to celebrate the richness of history while contributing to a more sustainable world. Whether through wearable jewellery or recreating historical artifacts for public display, my goal is to bring the past to life and share it with the community in a meaningful way.
